Principle of operation and design

A gear pump with external gear engagement consists of two identical gears located in the housing. One of them is the driving one, the other is the driven one. Rotating, the gears capture the fluid between the teeth and the walls of the housing and move it from the suction zone to the discharge zone.

An important condition for the effective operation of such a pump is the presence of lubricating properties in the liquid, since the design does not have additional seals in the engagement zone.
